Introducing Tangshan
Tangshan, abbreviated as "Tang," is a prefecture-level city in Hebei Province, located in eastern Hebei Province and northeastern part of the North China Plain. Bounded by the Bohai Sea to the south and the Yanshan Mountains to the north, it borders Beijing and Tianjin. Situated at the strategic throat of the passage between North China and Northeast China, it serves as the central city of the Beijing-Tianjin-Tangshan Industrial Base and the northeastern subcenter of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei urban agglomeration. In the 19th year of the Zhenguan reign of the Tang Dynasty (645 AD), Emperor Taizong of Tang, Li Shimin, led his army on an expedition to the Korean Peninsula. On his way back, he passed through Tangshan. His beloved concubine, Concubine Cao, tragically passed away due to illness. In memory of his beloved, Li Shimin bestowed the surname Tang on the mountain, thus giving the city its name. Over 30 years ago, the devastating Tangshan earthquake nearly reduced the city to ruins. However, the resilience and innovation of the people of Tangshan have enabled the city to rapidly develop and become a leading modern city. The Tangshan Earthquake Memorial Hall is a must-see for tourists. The Eastern Qing Tombs in the area are the largest and most complete existing royal mausoleums in my country, and are listed as a World Cultural Heritage; there are also many cultural and natural landscapes such as the Great Wall Pass, Jingzhong Mountain, Bodhi Island, Jinyintan, Li Dazhao Memorial Hall and his former residence.
