The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding is one of the main research bases for the Chinese government's ex-situ conservation program for endangered wildlife, including giant pandas. It is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction and a renowned institution in my country and globally for the conservation of rare and endangered wildlife, integrating giant panda research and breeding, conservation education, educational tourism, and the development of panda culture.
While conducting giant panda breeding research, the Chengdu base has also established educational facilities such as the Giant Panda Museum, a live panda and environment exhibition area, park information boards, interactive explanation stations, a Panda Charm Theater, and an Internet site. The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding was established in 1987 to conserve and breed giant pandas. It plays a key role in global panda conservation, research, and public education about endangered species.
Booking in advance is recommended, especially during weekends, public holidays, and peak tourist season, ideally 1–2 weeks ahead.
Allow 3–4 hours to see the main panda enclosures, nursery, red pandas, and educational exhibits.
Guided tours are available in Mandarin and English. Audio guides and informative panels provide explanations about pandas and conservation efforts.
Start with outdoor enclosures, then visit the indoor habitats, proceed to the nursery and red panda areas, and finish with the educational exhibits and garden paths.
Night visits are not generally available, but special events or conservation workshops may occur seasonally.
The base can be very crowded during weekends, Chinese public holidays, and school vacations. Weekdays and early mornings are quieter.
