Ezhou's West Mountain, formerly known as Fan Mountain, is named for its location west of present-day Ezhou, Hubei, the ancient capital of the Wu Kingdom. Located on the southern bank of the middle Yangtze River, West Mountain is 68 kilometers from the Central China metropolis of Wuhan. Bounded by the Yangtze River to the north, it faces the Chibi of Huangzhou; to the south, it borders the vast expanse of Yanglan Lake, connecting it to the bustling city to the east; and to the west, nestled between the winding Fanchuan River, stretching a hundred miles, rising from the ground between the river and the lake. West Mountain winds its way through nine peaks and six valleys, cascading peaks and ridges, shrouded in pine and cypress trees. Green ravines and crimson cliffs, cascading waterfalls, and jade-like shimmer. The entire mountain range stretches approximately 1.6 kilometers from east to west and 1.2 kilometers from north to south. Its main peak stands at 170 meters, and its total area exceeds 4,000 mu. Six valleys and streams connect seven springs, three pools, one lake, and two waterfalls. West Mountain's groundwater is of excellent quality and inexhaustible year-round.
