Suicheng, Suixi County, has long been a bustling economic and trade center in western Guangdong, one of China's major southern gateways, and a crucial political, military, economic, cultural, and transportation center on the Leizhou Peninsula. The Liyudun Shell Mound Site in Suixi County is a Neolithic human settlement dating back 7,000 to 8,000 years. It is the earliest known site of human habitation on the Leizhou Peninsula and is known as the "First Village of the Leizhou Peninsula." Folk lion dance performances in Suixi County have a long and rich history, dating back to the Ming and Qing dynasties. On June 2, 2006, the Suixi lion dance was inscribed on the first batch of the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List.
