Introducing Tongguan
Tongguan, located in Gangkou Town, Tongguan County, Weinan, lies in the eastern part of the Guanzhong Plain and is one of the most famous passes in ancient China. Tongguan's strategic location is exceptionally precarious. To the south lies the Qinling Mountains. To the southeast lies the Forbidden Valley, with 12 linked cities to the south. To the north, the Wei and Luo Rivers converge into the Yellow River, surrounding the pass. To the west, it borders Mount Huayue. Surrounding the pass are towering mountains, peaks intertwined, valleys deep and cliffs steep, and the roads narrow through the high mountains, with only a narrow, goat-like path barely wide enough for one carriage or one horse. In the past, people often used the sayings "a narrow road so dangerous it's like a monkey's struggle" and "the road to the human world ends at the dangerous Tongguan Pass" to describe the importance of this location.
