Tianzhen County, located at the northeastern tip of Datong City, Shanxi Province, is under the jurisdiction of Datong City. Situated at the junction of Shanxi, Hebei, and Inner Mongolia, it borders Huaian County, Hebei Province to the east, Yangyuan County, Hebei Province to the south, Yanggao County to the west, and Xinghe County, Inner Mongolia to the north. During the Warring States Period, it was Yanling Prefecture of the State of Zhao. Yanling County was established in the Western Han Dynasty. Tiancheng Army was established in the Tang Dynasty, and it was renamed Tiancheng County during the Liao Dynasty. During the Ming Dynasty, it was further divided into Tiancheng Guard and Zhenlu Guard. In the third year of the Shunzhi reign of the Qing Dynasty (1646), it was merged into Tianzhen Guard.
