Introducing Wenshui
Wenshui County, under the jurisdiction of Lüliang City, Shanxi Province, is nestled between the Lüliang Mountains to the west and the Fen River to the east, situated in the central Fen River Valley. Wenshui County faces Qi County and Pingyao County across the Fen River to the east, borders Fenyang City to the south, borders Lishi District of Lüliang City to the west, and borders Jiaocheng County and Qingxu County to the north. Stone artifacts and cave dwellings unearthed from Shangxian and Xiyukou in Wenshui County indicate that human settlement in Wenshui County dates back to the Neolithic Age. The old Wenshui County Chronicles state that Wenshui was part of the ancient Ji and Bing regions, and was under the jurisdiction of Jizhou during the Tang and Yu dynasties. When Emperor Yao was Tanghou, his capital was Pingtao (Pingtao Village, Wenshui County). Later, it became part of Bingzhou. The name Wenshui originated from the ripples on the Wenyu River flowing from Guancen Longmen to Yukou, giving the county its name.
