Qianshan County (Yán shān) is located in northeastern Jiangxi Province and is under the jurisdiction of Shangrao City. It borders Zhejiang to the east, central Jiangxi to the west, Fujian to the south, and Anhui to the north. Gan, Wu, and Minnan dialects are predominantly spoken in the area, and the majority of the Han Chinese are of the Jiangyou ethnic group. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, Qianshan was listed as one of the "Five Great Handicraft Centers of Jiangnan," along with Songjiang in Shanghai, Suzhou and Hangzhou in Jiangsu and Zhejiang, Wuhu in Anhui, and Jingdezhen in Jiangxi. It was one of the earliest regions in China to see the emergence of capitalism. The county seat, Hekou Town, is one of Jiangxi's four ancient towns and, along with Shitang Town, has been designated a "Famous Historical and Cultural Town of China," making it the only county in Jiangxi Province to boast two nationally recognized historical and cultural towns.
