Heshuo County, meaning "advance troops," is located at the southern foot of the Tianshan Mountains in central Xinjiang. It is the intersection of southern, northern, and eastern Xinjiang, and the gateway to Bayingolin Mongol Autonomous Prefecture and southern Xinjiang. Located 380 kilometers from Urumqi, it is known as the "First County of Southern Xinjiang," nestled against the Tianshan Mountains to the north. It borders China's largest inland freshwater lake, Bosten Lake, to the south.
The Tuku Second Line of the Southern Xinjiang Railway and the Heku Expressway pass through Heshuo County. It is known as the "First County in Southern Xinjiang and the Eastern Gate of Bayingolin Mongol Autonomous Prefecture". It is a hub for entering and exiting southern and northern Xinjiang, and is also the most high-quality grape producing area in Xinjiang.
