Introducing Zongshan Fort
The Dzong Castle is located in the center of Gyantse County in the eastern part of Shigatse Prefecture, Tibet. The rocky mountain where the castle is located is called Dzong. In the past, Dzong was an administrative unit in Tibet, equivalent to a county. Therefore, the castle was actually the county seat.
It is a landmark building in Gyantse. It was here that the vigorous and heroic story of the Tibetans' resistance against the British army took place. The movie "Red River Valley" was adapted based on historical facts.
In April 1904, the Tibetan people fought a bloody 80-day battle against British invaders at Dzong Mountain to defend the integrity of Tibet. The film "Red River Valley" was filmed against this backdrop. In 1962, the Dzong Mountain Fortress in Gyantse was designated a key national cultural relic protection site.
