Shanlian Town is located in the southern part of Nanxun District, Huzhou City, 45 kilometers away from Huzhou. The town has well-developed roads and waterways, and transportation by car and ship is very convenient. It is known as the "Holy Land of Silkworm Flowers".
Shanlian Town is the birthplace of the Hu brush, one of the four treasures of Chinese study, and is known as the "Capital of Hu brushes". Almost every household in the town has a brush maker, and every household produces Hu brushes with exquisite craftsmanship, which are famous all over the world.
Each Hu brush undergoes twelve steps to make: brush material, cattail mat, water basin, head knotting, case mounting, ox horn inlaying, brush selection, and engraving. Each step has several sub-steps, and the entire production process totals over 120 steps, leading to the saying that "Mao Ying's craftsmanship is unmatched in the world."
