Located south of Xingyi City, the Wanfenglin Scenic Area, a National AAAA-level scenic spot, comprises nearly 20,000 striking peaks and lush green ridges. It is one of the three major karst landforms in southwest China. The dense and unique peaks and forests here are considered a Chinese conical karst museum and are listed among China's five most beautiful peak forests. Xu Xiake described them as "only here do peaks become forests." The Wanfenglin Scenic Area is divided into two major sections: the East and West Peak Forests. The currently open to the public, paid scenic area is primarily located in Wutun Town below the West Peak Forest, while the East Peak Forest remains undeveloped.
In addition to its beautiful scenery, the area boasts several Buyi villages, including Nahui, Leli, and Yulong, offering visitors a glimpse into the rich Buyi customs and culture. The Xifenglin Scenic Area offers two tour routes: a mountainside loop and a road through the fields and villages. In spring, thousands of acres of rapeseed flowers bloom, creating a spectacular sight.

Wanfenglin, also known as the "Forest of Ten Thousand Peaks," is famous for its spectacular karst landscape. This natural wonder is part of the larger karst region in Southwest China, with a rich history rooted in the local Qian and Tibetan cultures. It is significant for its unique geology and its role in the conservation of natural biodiversity.
Wanfenglin is located in Southwest Guizhou, near the town of Zhaoxing in the Qianxinan Buyi and Miao Autonomous Prefecture. The best way to get there is by taxi or private car from the nearest city, Xingyi. Public transportation is limited, so it's recommended to arrange transportation in advance.
The park is open year-round, with hours from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The best time to visit is during the spring and autumn months when the weather is pleasant and the landscapes are at their most vibrant.
The entrance fee is approximately 80-100 CNY. Tickets can be purchased on-site or in advance through local tourism websites.
It's not mandatory to book tickets in advance, but during peak tourist seasons (spring and autumn), it's advisable to book at least a few days in advance to avoid long lines.
You will need about 3-4 hours to explore the key areas of Wanfenglin. If you plan to hike or visit nearby villages, it could take up to a full day.
Guided tours are available in Mandarin, and some English-speaking guides can be arranged. Audio guides in Mandarin are also available, but English options may be limited.
The best viewpoints are located near the main entrance and along the hiking trails, where you can capture panoramic shots of the karst peaks. The valley and river areas also provide excellent photography opportunities, particularly during the golden hours of sunrise and sunset.
Start at the main entrance and explore the karst landscape along the designated paths. After taking in the views, consider visiting the local villages and enjoying the cultural heritage. If time allows, take a boat ride along the river for a different perspective of the landscape.
Night visits and light shows are not available at Wanfenglin. However, the area is beautiful at sunset, so visiting during late afternoon hours is highly recommended.
The park can be crowded during peak seasons, especially in spring and autumn. The least crowded times are on weekdays during the off-season, particularly in winter and early spring.
Basic facilities, including toilets, food stalls, and small shops, are available at the entrance and along the main paths. There are also rest areas where visitors can relax and enjoy the scenery.
The main areas are accessible for elderly and children, though some of the hiking trails may be difficult for those with mobility issues. The paths near the entrance and viewpoints are relatively easy to navigate.
Mobile payments (WeChat Pay, Alipay) are widely accepted at shops and food stalls. Cash is also accepted, but it is recommended to use mobile payment methods for convenience.
Vegetarian options are available, especially in local restaurants. Vegan and halal food may be limited, so it's best to inquire in advance or bring your own if you have specific dietary needs.
Yes, there are souvenir shops near the entrance selling local handicrafts, traditional clothing, and karst landscape-themed items. Typical souvenirs include handwoven textiles, silver jewelry, and carved wooden items.
After visiting Wanfenglin, taxis and private cars are the best options for continuing your trip. Public transportation is limited, so it's recommended to arrange a ride or hire a driver for the next destination.
