Dragon Elephant Pagoda
Atop a hilltop to the right of Tianchi Lake stands a pagoda called the Dragon Elephant Pagoda, commonly known as the Qingshan Pagoda. It is a symbol of Qingxiu Mountain. Located on Fengyi Ridge in the Qingxiu Mountain Scenic Area of Nanning City, the Dragon Elephant Pagoda was built in 1618 by Xiao Yunju, the Minister of Rites of Dancun Village, a suburb of Nanning, during the Ming Dynasty. Construction was completed the following year, and the pagoda was named after the Buddhist verse that "dragons on water possess great power, and elephants on land possess great power." The original pagoda stood over 10 zhang (300 ft) tall, a nine-story, octagonal brick structure with double eaves. In 1624, the fourth year of the Tianqi reign of the Ming Dynasty, a lightning strike collapsed the top two floors, and the structure has never been repaired.
