The Badaling Great Wall has a long history, dating back to the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, when the State of Yan built the Great Wall in the Jundu Mountain area to defend against invasions by nomadic tribes from the north.
Most of the existing Badaling Great Wall dates back to the Ming Dynasty. The Ming dynasty established nine strategic military garrisons along the Great Wall, known as the "Nine Frontiers," and Badaling fell under the jurisdiction of Jizhen. To strengthen defenses, the Ming dynasty undertook extensive construction and reinforcement of the Badaling Great Wall, transforming it into a sturdy military defense line.
Best season to visit:
The Great Wall is playable in all seasons
In spring, you can enjoy the blooming peach, apricot and pear blossoms at the Great Wall, and your mood will be as peaceful as water when you are at the Great Wall.
In summer, the Great Wall is covered with lush vegetation, verdant trees and green grass, and it seems to be hidden in a sea of green. It is also a great place to escape the summer heat.
Autumn is one of the most beautiful seasons to visit the Great Wall. The changing colors of the leaves on the mountains, red, yellow, and orange, complement the Great Wall, creating a vibrant scene that resembles a giant golden dragon winding through the mountains. The cool, refreshing autumn weather makes it a perfect time for outdoor activities and a chance to enjoy the scenery.
In winter, the Great Wall is covered with snow, like a giant silver dragon coiled in the mountains. It looks even more ancient and tranquil after the snow.
