Dandong's Broken Yalu River Bridge, originally the first bridge across the Yalu River, was built in 1909. It is 944.2 meters long and 11 meters wide, with twelve spans. The fourth span from the Chinese side is an opening and closing beam. It rotates 90 degrees around the fourth circular pier to facilitate navigation for passing ships, with each rotation taking 20 minutes. It was destroyed by US bombing during the Korean War. The remaining four spans on the Chinese side bear witness to the war. It is a major attraction in the Yalu River National Key Scenic Area's Bridge Scenic Area.
