Valley of the Kings

Introducing Valley of the Kings

Kings Valley is located in Watarrka National Park in the hinterland of the Northern Territory , on the west side of the George Gill Range, about 1,950 kilometers from Darwin, the capital of the Northern Territory .

Kings Canyon is a magnificent canyon with a drop of nearly 100 meters and stretches for 1 kilometer. At the bottom is a stream called Kings Creek . Kings Canyon is not only the most spectacular canyon in Australia, but also one of the most spectacular representative places in Australia's inland Red Centre.

The Valley of the Kings boasts hiking trails, lush forests, and permanent waterholes. Its sheer red rock walls rise from dense palm, fern, and eucalyptus forests, protecting the jungle from the encroaching desert and providing a haven for native animals. For tens of thousands of years, the area has been home to the indigenous Luritja people .

Climate and best time to travel

The Northern Territory has only two seasons a year: the dry season and the rainy season. The dry season generally runs from the end of April to the beginning of October , and the climate is relatively pleasant, making it the best time to travel.

Recommended number of days and locations for visiting

There are three walking routes in the Valley of the Kings:

The six-kilometer loop takes about 3-4 hours to circle the canyon. On the way, you will reach the highest platform in the canyon, where you can enjoy the panoramic view of the canyon from a high vantage point.

The 1.5- kilometer hike at the bottom of the canyon takes about 1-1.5 minutes and will lead you down to the Garden of Eden at the bottom of the canyon , an oasis surrounded by lush vegetation.

This 22- kilometer professional hike requires you to stay overnight in the park to experience the most primitive life. It is only recommended for people with rich outdoor travel experience and must be carried out under professional guidance.
