Maguk is located in the southern part of Kakadu National Park, a World Cultural and Natural Heritage Site in the Northern Territory , and an hour's drive south of Cooinda .
Even for Australians, few drive to Magokkai, located south of Kakadu, unless they enjoy adventure or have done their homework. The turquoise water here will definitely amaze you, the clear river flows over the rugged cliffs into deep pools, and there is also a large open-air swimming pool for fun.
The dry season is parched, but there is a very deep spring here with abundant water, which has led to a mighty mountain stream, nourishing the rain forest at the foot of the mountain to become extremely lush, with towering trees that can grow to nearly four stories high.
Beneath the cliffs lies a deep, serene pool, like a jade plate, nestled among the bright orange rocks. Particularly rare is the shallowness of the stream and the numerous rocky beaches along its path, which prevents the crocodiles that are ubiquitous in Kakadu's waters from reaching this area. This makes Magokkai one of the few natural swimming pools in Kakadu National Park.
Kakadu National Park is wettest from January to March and hottest from July to October , so try to avoid these two periods and opt for spring and autumn when the weather is pleasant and roads are generally open.
