Located at 38°47'N, 9°30'W, approximately 40 kilometers from Lisbon, it is the westernmost point of Portugal and the entire Eurasian continent. A lighthouse and a cross facing the ocean are built on the cliffs of Cape Roca. Inscribed on the monument in Portuguese is the famous phrase: "Here the land ends and the sea begins" (Onde a terra acaba eo mar começa). Cape Roca was once voted one of the "50 most worthwhile places to visit in the world" by netizens.
Cape Roca is indeed different from other places. It is so steep that one feels as if one could be murdered at any moment while standing on the edge of the cliff. The unobstructed wind is the most suspicious killer. And the waves, which appear calm from a distance but burst into passion as soon as one approaches, shatter like emerald, remind one of the moral principle of "rather die with honor".
Every visitor can buy a certificate for 5 euros. The certificate not only has a map of Cape Roca and the Portuguese national emblem, but also clearly states that "someone has reached the westernmost point of the European continent."
