Hi all, we are planning a short 3-day trip to Maldives after 2 weeks in Sri Lanka. We would like to stay in a local island and we are doubting between Diffhushi or any other island between Male and Diffushi (like for example Huraa).
We are in a low budget, but as we will only stay 3 days in Maldives we are thinking that the fast ferry would be a better option than the public one. How can we check prices and schedule for these ferries? Do they stop only in Dhiffushi? Or we could stop in the islands in between like the local ferry? Our plan is to relax in the beach, so we would like an island with bikini beah. And also to do some snorkeling tour and maybe try to see sharks.
Would a good idea be to stay in Huraa (or some other similar island) or better go to Diffushi, even if fast ferry would be more expensive because it's further away? Is it worth it?
Thanks in advance!
Sara
Hi, I've been to many local islands but these two. The best way to book a speedboat or any kind of transport is to contact your accomodation. They know better cause there is usually minimum info about transport companies online.

Thank you Roland. Could you share what local islands have you visited that you reccommend? We are open to other possibilities.
I'll queue thdm from the most recommended: Feridhoo, Fulhadhoo, Fodhdhoo, Omadhoo, Hangaameedhoo, Bodufolhoodhoo, Mathiveri, Fehendhoo, Gulhi, Maalhos, Guraidhoo, Himandhoo. Perhaps Gulhi is for you, it's very close to Male.
Many thanks Roland! We will have a look at them.
Feridhoo over Fulhadhoo? Can I ask the reason why? I have been trying to choose between the 2... in the end I was thinking Fulhadhoo because it looks like it has more of a beach area... but im still uncertain... I also have been considering Kamadhoo but I can see any reviews on the Island to be able to judge either way.
Hi, while Fulhadhoo has very long and nice beach on lagoon side, the snorkelling is really challenging comparing to Feridhoo. Both islands are very nice but bit different in landscape.
Why is the snorkelling challenging? Because of the currents?
Hi, because the snorkelling area is 300 m and more from the shore...
Thanks! Then it might not be a good option for us travelling with kids.
Any other recommendations of nice local islands with good and easy reefs for snorkelling in the Baa atoll?
