best hotels for monkeys

hi we came last time 7 years ago and had a amazing time next door to the datai but that hotel has now burnt down. all given off this forum.

i want to get the best of the best for monkey viewing etc again.

is mid nov a good month and apart from the Datai where else would you recommend

TIA x

Definitely the Berjaya where you will see both the macaques and dusty leaf monkeys.

Thanks for the information and links , it is really helpful . W hen we were on the island 7 years ago we stayed at the Adamana ( poss wrong spelling) which was next to the Datai but the Datai was closed as it was going through a huge refurb. It in all my years of travelling that trip was simply magical , I also watched the programme with Rob Rinder and monika and that reinforced i need to go back . The Datai indeed is pricey but it gets seamless reviews where looking at the Berjaja it has some terrible reviews - Do you think there is any merit in many of these one poster terrible reviews. Being a DE for dubai im very mindful of one poster reviews. im happy to really save hard for the right experience which is prob 5 nights at the hotel.(Datai) but i dont mind the other one id prob just go in for a larger room.

The other thing i noted is the beach front rooms are lovely but i wouldnt think they would attract the wildlife we would want to view , so im assuming at rain forest room would be better suited.

Also do you think mid nov would be a good month or go the following june /july. When we went in the Sept we had terrible weather - it didnt bother us but it never stopped raining . Xmas would be perfect but i cant travel then.

I've stayed at the Berjaya for the last 20 years and although there are small niggles, I honestly cannot fault it for the area, the wildlife and the staff and like you, as DE for Langkawi, I do gloss over the one poster reviews.

If you can afford The Datai then go for it as you will get luxury combined with the rainforest and a beautiful beach.

November is probably the best time to go. September can be rainy and so can October.

You can bump into wildlife at random times at The Datai (we saw a wild boar en route to the beach!) so perhaps just choose a room that matches your budget. Rainforest Villas with a pool are certainly nice.

It is probably the best beach on the island but The Datai is certainly not cheap. Since the Andaman's closure, there's only really one other option on Datai Bay, which is this:

A lot cheaper, but with access to the same beach, and just as surrounded by nature.

I dont think they will check-in monkeys.

But if you want to see monkeys then Berjaya is probably the best location.

Having stayed at the Berjaya and seen how little the hotel management do to encourage responsible viewing of the local wildlife, I would not recommend staying there if you really care about the animals.

Like you, we were looking for an alternative to the Andaman...one of our very favourite hotels anywhere.

I have come to the conclusion that the only hotel offering a similar experience is the one next door...The Datai, but as you know, this comes at a cost.

Paradise

I agree with you and have complained to the management numerous times and even initiated the erection of signs about not feeding and touching the wildlife, but sadly the management take the view that if that's what the guests want, then it's ok with them.

As much as I love this hotel, I will not stay there again for this reason.

Hi Steady.

Likwise, it is not somewhere I will return to.

I too have engaged with the hotels management, but to no avail.

It's a great shame as it has/had the potential to be a wonderful resort for people who love and respect nature.
