Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai - trekking/hiking
Hello,
Are there any trekking hiking trails around Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai where you can get by taxi and do them on your own? I like independent travel and I am not crazy about group tours or private tours with a guide. If yes, please let me know. I would like to do a couple. Thanks.
Sure, there are plenty of possibilities; there are 9 or 10 National Parks around Chiang Mai. Some parks are less than 1 hour drive away, like Ob Khan, Khun Chae, Mae Takhrai and Chae Son park. Doi Inthanon is 2 hours drive, but very touristy. Getting there needs planning, as well as getting back. And getting by taxi? How are you going to get back? Better to use a rented car or scooter.
Most national parks have a visitor center with a Nature Trail, and there are plenty of other mountain trails too. More here:
