All you can eat Crab Legs

Hello TA! I will be visiting the area Dec 1-5. We fly into Charleston and will make our way down to Savannah area....focusing on family in Hinesville and Port Wentworth. Might stay in Pooler area. Where in all areas do you know of “all you can eat” Crab Legs. There was a bar & grill in Port Wentworth right beside the Quality Inn on 95 and 21 but it closed. We love Shell house too but they don’t have the special. I have been to the Crab Shack out on Tybee and not impressed. I’m interested in your thoughts.

If you’ll be traveling between Charleston, Pooler, Port Wentworth, Hinesville, and Savannah, there are a handful of places that either regularly offer all-you-can-eat crab legs or run seasonal specials. While AYCE crab legs are not as common in the Savannah area as they used to be, there are still some solid options within reasonable driving distance.

Below are the places most travelers and locals mention for AYCE crab legs, plus a few alternatives that offer generous crab portions even if not officially AYCE.

All-You-Can-Eat Crab Leg Options (or Regular Crab Leg Specials)

  • The ShellHouse Seafood (Savannah / I-95 & Hwy 204) – You already know and like ShellHouse. While they do not offer AYCE crab legs, they are still one of the best crab leg portions in the Savannah area. Worth mentioning for quality, even though not AYCE.
  • Fiddler’s Crab House (Savannah River Street) – Not AYCE, but they often run King or Snow Crab specials. Good option if you’re sightseeing in Savannah.
  • J’s Seafood & Grill (Savannah / Southside) – Occasionally has AYCE crab leg nights, especially on weekends. These change based on market price, so it’s best to call ahead before driving.
  • Lady & Sons (Savannah Historic District) – The buffet rotates seasonally, and while AYCE crab legs are not guaranteed, there are times during the year when they offer crab legs as an “add-on” to the buffet. Worth checking for your December dates.

Within Short Driving Distance (Often More Reliable for AYCE)

  • The Crab Shack on Tybee Island – You mentioned you weren’t impressed, so this may not be your choice, but it does still offer large crab platters even if not AYCE.
  • Love’s Seafood (Ellabell / Near Hwy 204) – Not AYCE, but good seafood near Pooler, known for generous portions and sometimes seasonal crab specials.
  • The Juicy Seafood (multiple locations in Savannah & Pooler) – Typically boil-style seafood. They do not offer AYCE, but they sometimes run “extra crab cluster” specials that give you a good amount for the price.
  • Captain Joe’s Seafood (Midway, GA – on Hwy 17 toward Hinesville) – This is one of the closest spots to Hinesville that has historically offered AYCE crab legs on certain nights. Very popular with locals. These specials come and go depending on market cost, so definitely call ahead, but it has been one of the most reliable in the region.

Best Bet for Consistent AYCE Crab Legs Near Hinesville

If you are spending time around Hinesville, your top candidate is Captain Joe’s Seafood in Midway. When they offer AYCE, it’s usually on Friday or Saturday nights. The price fluctuates due to crab market cost, so calling ahead will save a trip.

Recommendation

Because December can be unpredictable for seafood pricing, your best strategy is to call the places that historically offer AYCE (especially Captain Joe’s and J’s Seafood). Savannah proper does not have many permanent AYCE crab leg restaurants, but the surrounding small towns are your best bet.
