rent a car or not

Hello we have a trip scheduled soon for a music festival in Miramar beach we are debating as to whether we need a car down there or should we uber everywhere, the longest uber ride would be from the airport to the Majestic sands resort condo, how easy is it to get groceries from the resort? Thanks

For a trip to Miramar Beach and a stay at Majestic Sands Resort during a music festival, deciding whether to rent a car depends on your priorities: convenience, cost, and how much you plan to explore outside the immediate area.

Airport to Resort Transportation

  • The drive from Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport (VPS) to Majestic Sands Resort is about 15–20 minutes. An Uber or Lyft will cover this easily, but expect surge pricing during peak travel times or festival weekends.
  • If you have heavy luggage or plan multiple people traveling together, a rental car might be more economical and convenient than multiple rideshares.

Getting Around Miramar Beach & Destin

  • Majestic Sands Resort is in a good location near Highway 98, which has several restaurants, shops, and attractions within a short drive.
  • For local errands (groceries, dining, beach), rideshares are feasible, but they can add up if you plan multiple trips per day.
  • If you want flexibility to explore nearby beaches, the harbor area, or other Destin attractions at your own pace, a rental car gives you full control.

Grocery Access

  • There are grocery stores within a short drive of Majestic Sands Resort, including Publix, Walmart, and smaller markets. These are not typically within walking distance from the resort, so a car or rideshare will be needed.
  • For quick essentials, some local shops and convenience stores are nearby, but a full grocery run usually requires transportation.
  • Many resorts offer delivery services (like Instacart or Walmart delivery) if you prefer not to drive — this can reduce the need for a car.

Recommendation

  • If your group is comfortable relying on Uber/Lyft and staying mostly at the resort or nearby venues, you could skip renting a car, though costs may add up during busy periods.
  • If you want maximum flexibility, plan grocery runs, visit other beaches, or explore more of Destin without worrying about ride availability, renting a car is more convenient.
  • Consider a hybrid approach: Uber/Lyft for airport transfers and short trips, but rent a car for a day or two if you plan multiple excursions.

Overall, for a festival weekend with limited local walking access to groceries, a car is not strictly necessary but will make your stay more convenient and give you flexibility to explore beyond the immediate area.
