Computer shop
Thank you in advance.
I’ve been searching a shop that they buy old (used) computer parts.
I contacted Micro Center, but they says they don’t buy used computer parts now.
I would appreciate your help.
If you’re in Troy, MI, and looking to sell or recycle old computer parts, you’re correct that major retailers like Micro Center no longer buy used parts. However, there are several alternatives where you can sell, trade, or responsibly recycle your components.
Here are some local options and strategies:
- Local computer repair shops / independent electronics stores: Some smaller shops buy used computer parts, especially working CPUs, GPUs, RAM, or motherboards. It’s worth calling or visiting local repair shops in Troy or nearby suburbs like Royal Oak, Madison Heights, or Sterling Heights. Examples include Troy Computer Repair and Tech Stop.
- Online marketplaces: Platforms like eBay, Facebook Marketplace, or OfferUp are popular for selling used computer parts directly to buyers. You can often get a better price than selling to a shop, especially for high-demand items like graphics cards.
- Electronics recycling centers / scrap yards: If the parts are old or not functioning, consider recycling. Companies like Best Buy (electronics recycling) or local e-waste recyclers will accept components safely, though you won’t get cash back.
Additional tips:
- Test your parts before selling to confirm functionality. Buyers or shops often want working hardware.
- Keep original packaging and documentation if available; this can increase resale value.
- For high-demand parts (GPUs, SSDs, CPUs), selling directly online usually gets the best return compared to local shops.
Summary: While Micro Center won’t buy used parts, your best options are smaller local computer repair shops for a quick sale, online marketplaces for potentially higher returns, or electronics recycling for non-working components.
