Bike
Arriving end on Jan for 11 weeks. Just looking for a mans bike very cheap that I could take a ride every now and then. Too expensive to rent. Doesn't have to look great just so it can get around. Any ideas beside Facebook marketplace.
If you’re looking for a cheap men’s bike on Saint Simons Island for a short-term stay, there are several options besides Facebook Marketplace that can help you get something functional without spending much.
Here are some ideas to consider:
- Local thrift and second-hand stores: Check out thrift stores in Brunswick or on the island itself. Places like Goodwill sometimes carry basic bicycles at low prices.
- Pawn shops: Pawn shops occasionally have used bikes at reasonable rates. They may not look perfect, but they are functional.
- Bike shops with used inventory: Some local bike shops sell refurbished or clearance bikes at discounted prices. Even if new bikes are expensive, a refurbished one can be much more affordable.
- Craigslist or OfferUp: Online classifieds often have local sellers offering inexpensive bikes. You can often negotiate for a low price.
- Community boards: Check local community centers, grocery stores, or libraries for “for sale” boards where residents may post cheap bikes for sale.
Additional tips:
- Look for a basic single-speed or 7-speed bike, which will be sufficient for short rides around the island.
- Inspect brakes, tires, and seat before purchasing to ensure it is safe to ride.
- Consider bringing a small lock so you can safely leave the bike outside if needed.
- Winter months may have fewer buyers, so you might find better deals in January than during tourist season.
Overall, with a little local searching and flexibility, you can find a cheap, functional bike to enjoy casual rides on Saint Simons Island without paying rental prices.
