Best transport to Covington & back?..

I’m from the UK and doing a USA/ Canada trip, we fly into Atlanta airport from Toronto and doing 2 nights in Covington.

Just looking into it and I’m not sure what my best option is to get from the airport to Covington and back? Is there Uber/ rideshare apps? Public transport?

Also whilst in Covington it doesn’t look like my hotel is close to the town (La Quinta) so will there be Uber for quick little trips like to take me into the town?

For your trip from Atlanta airport to Covington and back, there are several options available depending on your preferences for convenience, cost, and comfort.

Here are some options for getting from Atlanta Airport (ATL) to Covington:

  • Uber or Lyft: Both Uber and Lyft operate in the Atlanta area, including from the airport. These rideshare apps are a popular choice for travelers due to their convenience and ease of use. The ride from the airport to Covington typically takes about 1-1.5 hours, depending on traffic. Prices can vary, but expect to pay around $70-$100 for a one-way ride, with higher prices during peak hours or if you request a larger vehicle.
  • Airport Shuttle Services: Some companies offer shuttle services from Atlanta Airport to destinations outside of the city, including Covington. These can be more affordable than rideshares but may take longer as they could involve multiple stops. You can book a shuttle online or at the airport. Expect to pay around $40-$60 per person for a one-way trip.
  • Rental Car: If you're comfortable driving, renting a car might be a good option, especially for flexibility. The drive from ATL to Covington is straightforward and takes about an hour to an hour and a half. Renting a car allows you to have more control over your schedule and also makes it easier to explore the area while you're in Covington. Rental car prices vary, but you can expect to pay around $30-$60 per day for an economy car.
  • Public Transport: There is no direct public transportation from Atlanta Airport to Covington, so this may not be the most convenient option. However, if you're looking for a cheaper option, you could take MARTA (Atlanta's public transit system) to a bus station and then catch a Greyhound or Megabus to Covington. This would take a considerable amount of time and may not be ideal if you have limited time or are carrying luggage.

As for getting around Covington, your hotel (La Quinta) is not located right in the town center, but you will definitely be able to use Uber or Lyft for short trips into the downtown area, to visit restaurants, shops, or other local attractions. Covington is a relatively small town, so the distances are short, and ridesharing services should be readily available for quick trips. Expect to pay about $5-$10 for most rides within the town, depending on the exact distance.

Overall, rideshare services like Uber and Lyft are your best bet for both long-distance travel to Covington and for quick trips within the town. Renting a car could also be a great choice if you want the freedom to explore more of the surrounding area at your own pace.
