I am flying out of Calgary to Fort Lauderdale, making a connection in ATL to go to ft lauderdale. I’m confused about how to get from landing in South terminal ( that’s what my ticket says) to connect my flight in terminal 2. How do I get to my connecting gate?
Welcome to Atlanta! Navigating Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) can seem a bit overwhelming for first-timers, but it's a fairly straightforward process. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you connect from the South Terminal to your gate in Terminal 2:
1. Arrival at South Terminal (Domestic Terminal South): When you land in ATL, you will arrive at the South Terminal, which serves many international flights, including those from Calgary. This is where you'll clear customs if you are flying internationally.
2. Follow the signs for Connecting Flights: Once you exit the plane and enter the terminal, follow the signs that say “Connecting Flights.” These signs are in both English and other languages and will direct you to the appropriate area for all passengers with connecting flights.
3. Security and Customs (if applicable): If you’ve just arrived on an international flight, you’ll need to go through U.S. Customs and Border Protection. After customs, you’ll be directed to the connecting flight area. There may be a secondary security check here, but it depends on your airline and the specific connection.
4. Use the Plane Train: After clearing customs (if applicable), you'll need to take the ATL airport's internal transportation system called the "Plane Train." The Plane Train connects all terminals (Domestic Terminal North, Domestic Terminal South, Terminal 1, Terminal 2, etc.) and is the quickest way to travel between terminals.
5. Getting to Terminal 2: Since your connecting flight is in Terminal 2, which is the North Terminal (Domestic Terminal North), board the Plane Train and follow the signs to the North Terminal. The train will stop at all terminals, and it’s typically a 2-3 minute ride between terminals. This is the easiest way to navigate between terminals at ATL.
6. Follow signs to your gate: Once you arrive at Terminal 2 (North Terminal), follow the signs to your gate. Be sure to check the flight information monitors for the gate number of your flight to Fort Lauderdale. If you're unsure, you can always ask an airport staff member, as they are very helpful.
7. Be mindful of the time: ATL is a large airport, so it's important to allow at least 45 minutes to 1 hour for your connection, especially if you need to go through security again. If you have a tight connection, try to head straight to your gate as soon as you can.
In summary:
Enjoy your trip, and I hope this helps make your connection in ATL a bit easier!
