Tolls between Savannah and Melbourne Florida
I’m beginning to worry about toll roads in Florida but I’m hoping we can drive up the 95 highway to Savannah without worrying about tolls . Are there any tolls along the way does anyone know ? Thank you
If you're traveling along Interstate 95 (I-95) from Savannah, Georgia to Melbourne, Florida, you will encounter a few toll roads, but you can avoid most of them by sticking to the main route.
Tolls on I-95:
The stretch of I-95 from Savannah to Melbourne is mostly free of tolls, but there are a few sections in Florida where tolls are required:
- Florida's Turnpike (Toll Road): Once you enter Florida, you will encounter some toll roads, particularly if you decide to take the Florida Turnpike (a portion of I-95) toward the Orlando area. The Turnpike does charge tolls, but there is a way to avoid it by continuing on I-95 further south.
- Toll on the Golden Glades Interchange: The Golden Glades Interchange (near Miami) is where I-95 meets with toll roads, such as the 595 express lanes. However, if you're staying on I-95, you won’t need to take the toll routes here, so you can stay on the main highway to avoid them.
- Exit to Local Routes: Some exits from I-95 lead to toll roads or express lanes, particularly near major cities like Jacksonville or Miami, but as long as you stick to I-95 itself, you should be mostly toll-free. Make sure to double-check any route changes on your GPS or maps before heading out.
Suggestions to Avoid Tolls:
- Stick to I-95: If you stick to the regular I-95 route, you will mostly avoid tolls. The only significant tolls you might encounter are related to express lanes or toll bridges near major cities in Florida.
- Use a Toll-Free Route: Consider using free alternate routes or exits when approaching toll booths or express lanes. Avoiding toll roads is possible if you use local or non-toll routes, especially in urban areas.
- Check with your GPS: Before your trip, check your GPS for real-time information about toll routes and alternative options, so you can adjust your route as needed to stay on toll-free roads.
In summary:
You can drive most of the way from Savannah to Melbourne on I-95 without worrying too much about tolls. While there are toll roads in Florida, particularly near Orlando and Miami, they are generally avoidable if you stick to I-95. Make sure to double-check for any toll routes on your GPS, and plan your route accordingly to avoid additional tolls.
