Need Rainy day ideas

Heading up today, staying through the 4th. Looks like some on and off rain.

Mackinaw City and the surrounding Cheboygan County area offer several enjoyable activities even on rainy days. While the weather may limit outdoor sightseeing, there are plenty of indoor attractions to keep you entertained.

Indoor Attractions and Activities:

  • Colonial Michilimackinac: Explore the reconstructed 18th-century fort and museum. Even with rain, you can enjoy the indoor exhibits and learn about the area’s history.
  • Mackinac Bridge Visitor Center: Spend some time inside the visitor center, watch the short films about the bridge, and enjoy panoramic views (if weather allows) from the sheltered observation areas.
  • Icebreaker Mackinaw Maritime Museum: Discover the history of the icebreakers and Great Lakes shipping. The museum is mostly indoors and offers interactive displays.
  • Shepler’s Ferry Terminal: Even if you don’t take a ferry to Mackinac Island due to the weather, the terminal often has exhibits and gift shops to explore indoors.
  • Local Shops and Galleries: Mackinaw City has several boutique shops, fudge shops, and art galleries where you can browse and stay dry.

Dining and Relaxation:

  • Enjoy a leisurely meal at local restaurants like The Village Inn or Murdick’s Fudge, which also has a small indoor seating area for tasting fudge.
  • Consider stopping by coffee shops or bakeries to relax and plan the rest of your day.

Other Ideas:

  • Check local movie theaters for matinee showings.
  • Some hotels and resorts offer indoor pools, game rooms, or small arcades that can be fun for families.

Even with rain, Mackinaw City has enough indoor attractions to make your visit enjoyable. Plan your day around covered or indoor options, and keep an umbrella handy in case you want to walk between locations.
