Hi all,
My husband and I will be traveling to Boston for a week in mid-Oct. We live in N. CA in a wine region and it is very common to bring your own bottle of wine to a restaurant. We usually pay between 20-30 dollars for a corkage fee. Is this a common practice in Boston and if so, what are the typical corkage fees.
Also, I have been scouring different restaurants and there are plenty of Seafood and Italian restaurants to choose from but wondering if anybody could recommend a lighter farm to table restaurant. Thank you.
In Boston, the practice of bringing your own wine (BYOB) is less common at full-service restaurants than in some wine regions of California. Most mid-to-upscale restaurants have comprehensive wine lists and prefer guests to purchase wine on-site. However, some establishments do allow corkage, particularly smaller or family-owned Italian or seafood restaurants. Corkage fees in Boston typically range from $15 to $35 per bottle, depending on the restaurant’s policy and level of service. It’s always best to call ahead and confirm the policy and fee, as some places limit BYOB to certain days or require reservations.
For a lighter, farm-to-table experience, Boston has several restaurants emphasizing fresh, local, and seasonal ingredients. These spots often feature vegetable-forward dishes, lighter preparations, and sustainable sourcing.

Boston has a rich variety of dining experiences, from seafood and Italian to contemporary farm-to-table. By choosing restaurants that highlight local and seasonal produce, you can enjoy lighter, fresh meals even if BYOB is less common than in California.
