From McKinley Square to JFKLibrary and Museum

Hi, This is a simple question, I hope.

We plan to visit the JFK Museum and Library in Boston and it appears to be a direct trip on the Redline from Downtown to reach it.

The schedule shows Ashmont and Braintree … are these at the same location or which is best to get to the museum.

Also, is there a shuttle to the museum from there?

Much appreciated.

It's great to hear you're planning a visit to the JFK Museum and Library in Boston! Here’s the detailed information to help with your trip from McKinley Square to the museum:

1) Ashmont vs. Braintree on the Red Line

The Red Line has two branches: Ashmont and Braintree. Both are part of the same Red Line, but they go in different directions, and they do not share the same location. However, when traveling to the JFK Museum and Library, you’ll want to take the Braintree branch. Here’s how it works:

  • Ashmont Branch: This branch goes to the southern part of Boston, passing through neighborhoods like Dorchester. If you're coming from McKinley Square, this is not the branch you want to take.
  • Braintree Branch: The Braintree branch heads to the southern suburbs, including the JFK/UMass station, which is closer to the museum. You’ll want to catch the Braintree branch from Downtown Boston to get off at the JFK/UMass station.

2) Getting Off at the JFK/UMass Station

The JFK/UMass station is the closest stop to the JFK Museum and Library. Once you reach this stop, you’ll need to transfer to the #47 or #8 bus for a short ride to the museum. The museum is only a few minutes away from the subway station by bus.

3) Shuttle Service to the Museum

There is no direct shuttle service from the JFK/UMass station to the museum itself. However, the #47 bus is a quick and convenient option, as it runs directly from the JFK/UMass station to the museum. Buses typically run every 10-15 minutes during the day. Alternatively, if you prefer walking, it’s about a 20-minute walk from the JFK/UMass station to the JFK Museum, which is located in a scenic area of Boston.

Summary:

  • Take the Braintree branch of the Red Line from Downtown Boston.
  • Get off at JFK/UMass station.
  • Transfer to the #47 or #8 bus for a short ride to the museum.
  • Alternatively, you can walk about 20 minutes to the museum if you prefer a scenic stroll.

Hope this helps with your plans, and enjoy your visit to the JFK Museum and Library!
