Favorite Dim Sum in Chinatown?
Any favorite spots you can recommend for a Sunday morning Dim Sum? I'll be staying near Chinatown, but am also a little intrigued by Meyers & Chang's brunch -- not a traditional dim sum -- but looks good. Thanks all!
Boston’s Chinatown is a vibrant spot for authentic Dim Sum, especially on a Sunday morning when families gather to enjoy traditional Chinese breakfast-style dishes. There are several options within walking distance of the neighborhood, each offering slightly different experiences, from classic carts to modern interpretations.
For traditional Dim Sum, here are some well-loved options:
- Hei La Moon: Known for its classic Hong Kong-style Dim Sum served on carts, Hei La Moon is a favorite among locals. The menu features a wide variety of dumplings, buns, and steamed dishes. Arriving early is recommended, especially on weekends, as it can get busy.
- Gourmet Dumpling House: While slightly smaller, this restaurant is praised for its dumplings and shumai. It’s a casual spot, ideal for those looking for high-quality bites in a straightforward setting.
- Winsor Dim Sum: Offers a broad Dim Sum menu with traditional favorites. The service is quick, making it good for a Sunday brunch when you want a hearty, flavorful meal without long waits.
If you are intrigued by a more modern or creative brunch approach, Meyers & Chang’s is a great alternative:
- Meyers & Chang: This restaurant blends Chinese flavors with creative, eclectic brunch dishes. While not traditional Dim Sum, it offers a fun and flavorful experience with unique dishes and a lively atmosphere, suitable for those looking for something different from the usual carts and small plates.
Tips for visiting:
- Arrive early, around 10:00–11:00 am, for Dim Sum, as weekends are busy and lines can form quickly.
- Be prepared for a bustling, sometimes crowded environment, especially at the more traditional restaurants.
- Check opening hours ahead of time, as some restaurants may close after lunch or have limited weekend hours.
- If you want a more relaxed brunch with a creative twist, Meyers & Chang provides a good alternative to traditional Dim Sum.
Overall, if your goal is classic Dim Sum experience, Hei La Moon or Winsor Dim Sum are the top choices in Chinatown. For a modern, fun brunch experience, Meyers & Chang offers a unique and tasty option while still staying close to Chinatown.
