ACK Neighborhood question

We are looking at renting a house for a week during July 4 next year in the Miacomet & Hummock Pond Road area . Any comments on this, since this is our first time renting here? We realize that it is not super close to downtown. Is it tough to get to the beach from here? The house is the correct size for us, and has a pool so the family is excited. Thanks in advance for the help.

The Miacomet and Hummock Pond Road area in Nantucket is a lovely and more serene part of the island, perfect for a family getaway, especially if you're looking for a quieter retreat away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Nantucket. While it’s not as close to the town center, it has a lot of advantages that may make it a great choice for your stay.

Here are a few things to consider about renting in this area:

  • Distance to Downtown: Miacomet and Hummock Pond Road is located a bit farther from downtown Nantucket, so it’s not ideal if you plan to be in the heart of the action every day. However, the area provides a more peaceful environment, which can be a huge plus for families looking to relax and unwind. Expect a short drive (about 10-15 minutes) to get to the downtown area for dining, shopping, and attractions.
  • Access to the Beach: The beach is not immediately nearby, but it is still relatively accessible. Miacomet Beach, one of the most beautiful and less crowded beaches on the island, is just a short drive away (around 5-10 minutes). There’s also a public bike path nearby, making it a great option if you enjoy cycling to the beach. If you plan on spending a lot of time on the beach, having a car to drive there is definitely a good idea.
  • House Size and Pool: It sounds like the house is the right size for your family and has a pool, which is a great bonus for relaxation. The area is more residential, so you’ll have the privacy and peace of a family-oriented neighborhood, which is especially nice after a day of activities or beach outings. The pool will be a fantastic option for the kids or for unwinding after a day of sightseeing.
  • Traffic During July 4th: Keep in mind that July 4th is one of the busiest times on the island, so traffic can be heavier, especially around downtown Nantucket. However, since Miacomet and Hummock Pond Road are a bit farther out, you may experience fewer crowds in your neighborhood, offering a more relaxed atmosphere.

Overall, renting a house in the Miacomet and Hummock Pond Road area offers a great mix of privacy, tranquility, and proximity to beautiful beaches. While it’s a bit farther from downtown, it’s still easy to get to all the main attractions with a short drive, and the added bonus of a pool will make it a wonderful family vacation spot.

Enjoy your trip and the time spent in Nantucket—it’s a beautiful island with so much to offer!
