RNO to Tahoe Ridge resort
We are traveling in January and need to get from RNO to Holiday inn Tahoe Ridge resort. Renting a car is extremely expensive, so we were going to take the Airporter bus. Are there Ubers that will pick up at one of the hotels at the bottom of the hill and drive us up? How do people get there with no car?
Getting from Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) to the Holiday Inn Tahoe-Ridge Resort in January without a rental car is common, as winter car rentals can be expensive and driving in snow may be challenging for some visitors.
Options:
- Airporter Bus / Shuttle: This is a convenient and affordable option. Airporter operates regular shuttle services from RNO to South Lake Tahoe and the base of the Heavenly Valley area. You would typically get dropped off at one of the hotels or a central location at the bottom of the hill.
- Uber / Lyft from Base Hotels: Once at a hotel at the base, you can request a rideshare to take you up to the Holiday Inn Tahoe-Ridge Resort. Note that rideshare availability can be limited in snowy conditions, and vehicles may not always be equipped for steep or icy roads. It’s advisable to check with the driver beforehand.
- Private Shuttle or Taxi: Many companies in the South Lake Tahoe area offer door-to-door shuttle service from the base of Heavenly or other lower elevation hotels up to ridge resorts. This can be more reliable than rideshare, especially in winter, though it is more expensive than a bus.
Other Considerations:
- Check if the Holiday Inn Tahoe-Ridge Resort offers a complimentary or paid shuttle from the base area—it may save the hassle of arranging separate transport.
- Public transportation options (like the BlueGo buses) exist but can be limited in winter and may not be practical with luggage.
- Winter road conditions can impact travel times; allow extra time for shuttles or rideshares in case of snow or traffic delays.
Summary:
The typical approach without a car is to take the Airporter bus from RNO to the bottom-of-hill hotels, then either arrange a rideshare, private shuttle, or resort shuttle to get up to Holiday Inn Tahoe-Ridge Resort. Rideshares can work, but for reliability and winter safety, a private shuttle or resort-arranged transport is often preferred.
