Hotel/Uber during Krewe of Druids parade

We are planning on staying at the Hilton Riverside and our last full day in NOLA will be Wednesday Feb. 26th. We have stayed there before and I enjoy their river views and they have the amenities my husband needs to work from the hotel. My husband walks with a cane so we must taxi or uber almost everywhere. In the past we found it very easy to get rideshares from this location. It looks like the Krewe Of Druids parade and one following will be very close to the Hilton. We planned to go to dinner at Mamou that night. How difficult would it be to get an uber around 7:00 pm? Surge pricing is a given. I was looking for an alternative, One11 Hotel has most of what we would need. I might be able to make that work. Would I have a better chance of an uber there?

Staying at the Hilton Riverside is a great choice, especially with the river views and convenient amenities for your husband. Since you’re familiar with the location and have had good experiences with rideshares, it seems like a solid option for your stay in New Orleans during Mardi Gras. However, with the Krewe of Druids parade and another parade nearby, the area is likely to be quite busy, especially around 7:00 pm, when you plan to head to Mamou for dinner.

Getting an Uber around that time could be a bit challenging due to the crowds and road closures that are common during parades. While surge pricing is inevitable, the larger issue may be finding an available ride, as many Ubers and taxis will be tied up with parade-goers. Depending on how close the parade route is to the Hilton Riverside, you may experience delays in getting a ride, especially if you're traveling from a busy area with restricted access.

If you're concerned about potential delays or difficulty finding a ride, here are a few suggestions:

  • Plan ahead for Uber or Lyft: You may want to request a ride a bit earlier than usual, perhaps around 6:30 pm, to account for any delays due to traffic or congestion.
  • Consider alternative transportation: If getting an Uber from the Hilton proves difficult, you could also look into using a traditional taxi service, as they may have more flexibility navigating through parades and road closures.
  • Stay at One11 Hotel: While One11 Hotel is a nice property and could potentially give you a better chance of securing an Uber due to its location further from the parade route, you may find it just as crowded. Being away from the main action might help a bit, but Mardi Gras crowds can affect transportation throughout the entire city, so you might still face challenges during peak times.
  • Consider the timing: If you’re able to plan your dinner for a bit later or earlier, you might avoid the heaviest congestion and increase your chances of getting an Uber without the intense parade-related traffic.

Ultimately, while the Hilton Riverside is a fantastic location, the busy parade day may make transportation a bit more complicated. However, with a little advanced planning, you should still be able to get a ride to Mamou, even if it takes a little longer or requires a small bit of patience. If you’re flexible with time, either hotel should work fine, but make sure to allow some extra time for potential delays.
