Fairmont Kea Lani Maui vs The Ritz-Carlton Maui, Kapalua

Hello! Taking an adult only anniversary trip next week and latter half of the trip is in Maui. Looking for thoughts on the Fairmont vs. the Ritz. We are planning to rent and we do want to golf. I've heard you don't get much perks for golf even if staying at the Ritz. Looking for thoughts on which to book! Pros and Cons. We also want to relax and eat good good :)

Congratulations on your upcoming anniversary trip to Maui! Both the Fairmont Kea Lani and the Ritz-Carlton Maui, Kapalua are excellent choices, but they each offer different experiences. Here's a breakdown to help you choose between them based on your preferences for golf, relaxation, dining, and the overall experience:

Fairmont Kea Lani Maui (Wailea)

  • Location: The Fairmont Kea Lani is located in Wailea, one of Maui's most sought-after areas. It's known for its luxury resorts, beautiful beaches, and upscale dining and shopping options. It offers easy access to Wailea's golf courses, which are some of the best on the island.
  • Atmosphere: The resort has a more relaxed, laid-back vibe with an emphasis on family-friendly amenities. Although it's welcoming to families, it still offers a tranquil atmosphere and plenty of romantic spots for couples. The pools, lagoons, and beach are all ideal for relaxation.
  • Dining: The Fairmont has a number of excellent restaurants including the popular “Kea Lani Restaurant” for breakfast and the “Ama Bar & Grill” for lunch or dinner, offering a mix of Hawaiian-inspired cuisine. There's also “Luana” for sunset cocktails and light bites. If you want more variety, the Wailea area is full of great dining options.
  • Golf: While the Fairmont doesn’t have its own golf course, it offers access to some of Wailea's renowned courses. The Wailea Golf Club, located nearby, includes the Gold, Blue, and Emerald courses, all top-notch. You can easily rent a club nearby, but perks for hotel guests can be limited compared to some other resorts.
  • Pros:
    • Beautiful beach with calm waters for swimming and relaxing.
    • Spacious rooms, including suites with kitchens (great for longer stays).
    • Excellent for relaxation with luxurious pools and beach access.
    • Access to Wailea’s dining and shopping options.
  • Cons:
    • Can feel a bit more family-oriented, although there are plenty of adults-only areas.
    • Golf perks are not as great as the Ritz-Carlton's options.

Ritz-Carlton Maui, Kapalua (Kapalua)

  • Location: The Ritz-Carlton Maui is located on the northwest coast of Maui in the Kapalua area, known for its dramatic landscapes, rugged coastline, and some of Maui's best beaches. This area is slightly more secluded and quieter than Wailea, providing a more tranquil atmosphere for relaxation.
  • Atmosphere: The Ritz-Carlton has a refined, luxurious vibe with a focus on top-tier service and world-class amenities. The property is set among lush tropical gardens and has a more "resort-style" feel compared to the Fairmont. It’s perfect for those looking to indulge and unwind in a more exclusive, upscale setting.
  • Dining: The Ritz has several notable dining options, including “The Banyan Tree,” an upscale restaurant offering Hawaiian-inspired cuisine with views of the ocean. “Alaloa Lounge” provides a more casual setting with cocktails and small bites. It’s also close to “Merriman’s” in Kapalua, a farm-to-table dining experience.
  • Golf: The Ritz-Carlton Maui has a significant advantage when it comes to golf. The resort is located on the property of the world-famous Kapalua Resort, which includes the Bay and Plantation courses. These are top-tier golf courses with plenty of perks for hotel guests, including access to discounts and preferred tee times. This makes it an ideal option for golf lovers.
  • Pros:
    • Located in a quieter, more secluded area of Maui with stunning views.
    • Access to world-renowned golf courses and perks for golf enthusiasts.
    • Luxurious amenities, including an excellent spa and pools.
    • Less crowded and perfect for a romantic, adult-only getaway.
  • Cons:
    • The resort is more remote, so dining and activities outside the resort may require a longer drive.
    • More expensive compared to the Fairmont, especially with the high-end dining and golf options.

Summary:

  • If you're looking for golf: The Ritz-Carlton Maui, Kapalua is the better choice. It offers incredible golf perks, plus easy access to Kapalua’s golf courses.
  • If you want a relaxing beach getaway: Both resorts are great, but the Fairmont Kea Lani offers easier access to beaches with calmer waters and a more laid-back atmosphere. It's a great place for relaxation with less emphasis on golf.
  • If you're looking for a more secluded, romantic vibe: The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua is ideal for a quieter, more refined experience, while the Fairmont may feel more bustling and family-oriented, though still romantic.

Ultimately, both resorts are fantastic, but the Ritz-Carlton offers more for the avid golfer, while the Fairmont might be better for a combination of relaxation and access to more activities. It all depends on what kind of experience you’re hoping to have! Enjoy your trip, and happy anniversary!
