Storm warning

Please advice Flying with baby in 3 hours

We are flying with a 6 months old from Boston to Kauai with a layover in Honolulu. I just saw the email from airline that they are offering voucher if we want to back out. I just called grand Hyatt in Kauai where we are staying and they said the storm has passed already. Please help with the accurate information. Where can I keep track of the weather.

Hi there! I understand your concern about flying with a baby during stormy weather. Here's some advice on how to proceed with your trip and where you can track the weather for the most up-to-date information:

First, regarding the storm, it's good to hear from the Grand Hyatt that the storm has passed. However, to get the most accurate, real-time information, it's best to check reliable weather sources. You can monitor the weather by checking:

  • The National Weather Service (NWS) – The official NWS website provides up-to-date weather warnings and advisories for Hawaii and all U.S. territories.
  • The Hawaii Emergency Management Agency (HI-EMA) – This agency provides storm warnings, weather-related updates, and emergency information specifically for Hawaii.
  • Weather Apps – Apps like AccuWeather or The Weather Channel offer real-time weather updates and radar images for specific locations, including Kauai and Honolulu.
  • FlightAware – You can track the status of your flight, including any weather delays or cancellations. It’s especially useful to see if any delays are being caused by weather-related issues at your departure or arrival airports.

As for flying with a baby, here are some tips to make your journey smoother:

  • Feeding During Takeoff and Landing: Babies' ears can be sensitive to the pressure changes during takeoff and landing, so nursing or giving them a bottle during these times can help prevent discomfort.
  • Pack Essentials: Be sure to bring extra diapers, wipes, baby formula (if needed), baby snacks, a change of clothes, and any comfort items (like a favorite blanket or toy) to keep your baby content during the flight.
  • Arrive Early: Give yourself extra time at the airport to handle any additional needs or paperwork for traveling with a baby (like stroller checks or car seat arrangements).
  • Baby's Comfort: Make sure to dress your baby in layers, as temperatures in the cabin can vary. A lightweight blanket can also help keep them comfortable.
  • Travel Health Kit: Carry hand sanitizers, face masks, and baby-safe wipes to ensure hygiene during the flight.

As long as the weather in Kauai is no longer a concern, and you feel comfortable with your plans, your trip should be fine. If you have any doubts or feel uncomfortable about the flight, you may want to take the airline's offer for a voucher, especially if you’re worried about the storm's lingering effects. However, it sounds like things are clearing up in Kauai!

Safe travels, and enjoy your time in Kauai!
