Tantoushan Island lies at the junction of Damuyang and Maotouyang, east of Shipu Town, Xiangshan County, Zhejiang Province. Its terrain is steep and undulating, with lush, rolling hills. Fourteen peaks are less than 100 meters high, and there is little flat land. The mountains and fields are lush with vegetation, shrubs, birdsong, and flowers. The island is home to numerous bays, natural rock formations, caves, and beaches, creating a picturesque maritime landscape.
The island is shaped like an anchor and is named after the mountain. The origin of the name Tantou Mountain is recorded in Song Baoqing's "Siming Chronicles" as follows: "On the mountain of the island, there is a stone altar, flat as a table, so it is named Shitan Mountain, commonly known as Tantou Mountain, which is a homophonic sound of Tantou Mountain."
A summer resort, from July to the end of August, the island of Tantoushan will hold a wet festival, where bonfires are lit at night, and people dance to the sound of the waves and music.
