Walkability

Hello, Is it possible/advisable, to walk between Hilton Garden Inn and Napali Brewing? I've been to Kauai before but don't remember the sidewalk situation in that area. Thanks.

It’s great that you’re considering walking between the Hilton Garden Inn and Napali Brewing! Both locations are situated in Lihue, Kauai, which is a relatively small area, but the walkability can be a bit tricky depending on the specific route you take. Here’s a breakdown to help you decide:

Sidewalk Situation: The sidewalk availability in the area is somewhat mixed. There are sidewalks in certain parts of Lihue, but not all areas are pedestrian-friendly, particularly along busy roads like Kaumualii Highway, which is where both the Hilton Garden Inn and Napali Brewing are located. The highway can have heavy traffic and some stretches may not have sidewalks or have them inconsistently. This makes walking a little less pleasant or safe, especially in areas with fast-moving traffic.

Walking Distance: The distance between the Hilton Garden Inn and Napali Brewing is around 1.5 miles, so it’s definitely walkable if you're up for it. It would take you about 30 minutes to walk, depending on your pace. However, you should be aware of the road conditions and the lack of continuous sidewalks, which could make the walk a bit uncomfortable in places. If you’re planning to walk, it's recommended to stay on the side of the road with the best walking space, and be mindful of traffic.

Alternatives: If you’re concerned about the walkability or the roads not being pedestrian-friendly, here are some alternatives to consider:

  • Taxi or Ride-Sharing: Given the short distance, a quick taxi or ride-sharing service (like Uber or Lyft) could be a convenient and affordable option. This would ensure a safe, comfortable, and quick trip between the two spots.
  • Bicycle Rentals: Some local shops offer bicycle rentals, which could be a fun and more efficient way to get around Kauai, especially for short trips like this.
  • Car Rental: If you plan to explore more of Kauai during your stay, renting a car could be a good option to make travel around the island more flexible and comfortable.

Conclusion: While walking is technically possible, the lack of continuous sidewalks and the busy roads in the area could make it less pleasant and safe. If you're looking for convenience and comfort, a taxi, ride-sharing service, or bike rental might be a better choice for this particular trip. However, if you enjoy walking and are comfortable with the conditions, it's a manageable distance.

Hope this helps, and enjoy your time in Kauai!
