I know this is a travel forum, but I’m sure folks on board here like to cook.
I have an incredible crabcake recipe and am wondering where I can get lump crabmeat without having to mortgage our condo. It’s so expensive at Food Lion, etc.
Perhaps somewhere at the commercial harbor.
Thanks.
If you're looking for lump crabmeat in Ocean City without paying a premium at Food Lion or similar stores, there are a few great options that may help you find quality crabmeat at a better price.
1. Local Seafood Markets: There are several local seafood markets in Ocean City that offer fresh crabmeat directly from the source. Here, you can often find lump crabmeat at a more reasonable price than grocery stores. Some notable markets include:
2. Commercial Harbors & Fishermen’s Direct Sales: If you’re near the commercial harbor in Ocean City, there may be local fishermen selling directly to the public, offering the freshest catch at lower prices. In addition to fresh seafood, some fishermen sell pre-picked crabmeat. Check with local harbors to see if there are any direct sales or seasonal stands where you can purchase freshly picked crabmeat.
3. Farmers' Markets: During the summer season, the Ocean City area may have farmers’ markets where local vendors sell fresh seafood, including crabmeat. This can often be a more affordable option compared to grocery stores. You could check for any farmers' markets or food festivals in the area that may feature local seafood vendors.
4. Bulk or Wholesale Seafood Suppliers: If you’re willing to buy in larger quantities, some suppliers sell bulk crabmeat at more affordable prices. There are seafood wholesalers that provide fresh, pre-picked crabmeat in bulk for reasonable prices, especially if you’re willing to buy by the pound or in larger containers.
By visiting these local markets or suppliers, you should be able to find high-quality lump crabmeat without breaking the bank. Best of luck with your crabcake recipe!
