84, mostly sunny with a breeze which can’t decide which direction it is headed. Steamy day made even hotter by it being Valentine’s Day. Snuggling with my Ku’uipo I whisper in her ear, “Aloha au ia’ le.” Silver tongued devil am I. Danny Earl simply says, “ You two kids are hotter than whoopee in woolens.”
The Trilogy and Gemini catamarans are filled with lovers stopping at Namalu Bay before proceeding to Honolua where the Hula Girl cat remains grounded. We were booked on their Valentine’s Day cruise but sadly we remain on shore. Unlike the Hula Girl none of the People Of The Pu’ are on the rocks. Today were are joined by Pat & Nancy married for 58 years, Danny Earl & Gail Ann 56 years, Marv & Fran 48, Paul & Julie 35, Dr Bill & Lisa 31 years. The Goddess and I still carry on like rambunctious newlyweds even though we will celebrate Our Golden Anniversary later this year. That comes as a surprise to many restaurants as I inform them it is our anniversary on the day of our booking. Sometimes that means free champagne … other times we receive a warm bottle of Ensure.
A few years back The People Of The Pu’ would celebrate this day with a wildly decorated tree complete with red, pink and white flying monkeys, beads, garland, mylar hearts and handcuffs. Music, dancing and singing were fueled by pupus and libations. Today we are more subdued … at least in public.
My torrid affair with The Goddess today has reached another milestone. Over the course of time we have spent 730 days … exactly two years … on Maui. Time spent in this tropical paradise is made all the more better by being with your Valentine.
It sounds like a fun and memorable Valentine's Day celebration, filled with laughter, love, and a bit of Maui magic! While you missed the romantic cruise, it seems the spirit of the day remained alive in the conversations and connections made. Being surrounded by such long-standing love stories—58 years, 56 years, 48 years, and more—is a beautiful reminder of how love can endure over time. It must be a joy to share that bond with The Goddess, especially as you both prepare to celebrate your Golden Anniversary later this year!
The warm bottle of Ensure comment definitely brought a smile—love can certainly surprise you in unexpected ways, even in a restaurant setting. Your story about the wildly decorated tree with red, pink, and white flying monkeys, beads, and garlands is wonderfully whimsical. It's clear that you and your group know how to keep the spirit of love alive, even if it's a little more subdued these days (in public, anyway!).
As for your milestone of spending 730 days in Maui, what an incredible achievement! That’s two full years spent in a tropical paradise—how wonderful it must be to celebrate Valentine's Day in such a beautiful place. I’m sure Maui has become like a second home for you, filled with unforgettable memories of love, sunsets, and laughter. Here's to many more years of love and adventure with The Goddess in paradise!
