Hi all
Will be travelling from Ireland in March. Just wondering as ATM fees are high where are the cheaper places to get cash out?
Or is it better to bring all the cash we need for a 5 night stay?
Thanks very much
If you're traveling from Ireland to Las Vegas, there are several ways to manage ATM fees and cash withdrawals effectively:
1. ATM Fees: ATM fees in Las Vegas can be high, often including both a fixed fee from the machine and additional fees from your bank back home. Some machines may charge up to $5–$7 per transaction, and your home bank may charge an additional fee. It's worth checking with your bank before you travel to understand what fees they charge for international withdrawals.
2. Cheaper Options for Cash Withdrawal: If you do choose to withdraw cash, there are a few ways to minimize the fees:
3. Alternative: Bring Cash in Advance: You could also bring cash for your trip to Las Vegas to avoid ATM fees entirely. Currency exchange services at the airport or within hotels may offer competitive rates, but the exchange rate you get might not be as favorable as withdrawing from ATMs. To minimize this, you could bring a portion of your cash in advance, then use a mix of card payments and occasional cash withdrawals if needed.
4. Prepaid Travel Cards: Another option is to use a prepaid travel card. These cards, available through banks or financial services, allow you to load them with US dollars and use them as a debit card, avoiding high ATM withdrawal fees. Many cards offer competitive exchange rates and low withdrawal fees, though make sure to check for any maintenance or foreign transaction fees.
Overall, whether to bring all the cash you need or withdraw from ATMs depends on your preference for convenience versus minimizing fees. It may also be wise to bring a small amount of cash for tips and small purchases but rely on cards or ATMs for the rest of your spending.
