Oscars Traffic
I know Traffic in LA is never good, but how bad will Oscars affect 405 North. I want to check out The Getty. I’d be traveling between noon and 1 from DTLA.
Traveling in Los Angeles is always a bit unpredictable, but on Oscars Sunday, traffic can be significantly worse than usual around the major event areas. The 405 Freeway northbound, especially near Hollywood and Century City, is likely to experience heavy delays because the Oscars are held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, and many attendees and media will be moving through surrounding freeways and streets.
Since you plan to travel from Downtown LA to The Getty between noon and 1 PM, here’s what to consider:
- 405 North: Expect slower traffic than usual. There may be partial closures or lane restrictions in areas near Century City or West Hollywood. Even midday traffic may feel more like peak rush hour.
- Alternative routes: If possible, consider taking surface streets through Culver City or Santa Monica Boulevard, which may be slightly less congested, though signal lights will slow you down.
- Travel time: Normally, DTLA to The Getty takes about 30–40 minutes without traffic. During Oscars, allow at least 1–1.5 hours to be safe, especially for northbound 405.
Other tips:
- Check real-time traffic apps (Google Maps, Waze) before you leave; these will often show temporary closures or heavy congestion zones due to the event.
- Consider leaving earlier than planned if you want to avoid the worst congestion.
- If timing is flexible, visiting The Getty in the morning or later afternoon may help you avoid the peak traffic impacts of the Oscars.
In summary, Oscars traffic will likely make your drive from DTLA to The Getty slower than usual. Plan for extra time, monitor real-time traffic, and if possible, consider alternate routes to minimize delays.
