We wanted to visit Hawaii over Christmas. Is this a good time of year? This would be our first trip to Hawaii, and we will be flying from the East Coast . We are planning to stay at least 10 days. My husband and I are seasoned travelers and are retired so we are fairly flexible with activities and enjoy stay in at nice resorts. Thx in advance for recommendations and suggestions!
Visiting Hawaii over Christmas can be a wonderful experience, but there are a few factors to consider so you can plan accordingly. December is part of the high season, as many travelers from colder climates visit Hawaii to enjoy its warm weather, so resorts and flights can be more expensive and busy. That said, the islands are beautifully decorated for the holidays, and many resorts and towns have festive events, concerts, and special activities that can make your trip very special.
Weather-wise, Christmas in Hawaii is generally pleasant. Temperatures usually range from the mid-70s to mid-80s Fahrenheit (24–29°C) on the coast, with slightly cooler temperatures in higher elevations. You might encounter occasional showers, particularly on the windward (northeastern) sides of the islands, but these are often brief and shouldn’t significantly impact outdoor activities.
Some considerations for planning your 10-day trip:
Activities to enjoy during Christmas in Hawaii:
If you are flexible and prefer a quieter holiday, consider staying on the less populated islands such as Kauai or the Big Island for a more relaxed experience. Alternatively, Oahu and Maui offer more events, shopping, and nightlife if you enjoy festive energy and activities.
In summary, Christmas in Hawaii is a popular and beautiful time to visit, with great weather, festive atmosphere, and plenty of activities. Booking early and planning around crowds will help you maximize your enjoyment.
