Using my Bonvoy free night award
Now that the point values on hotels has changed so drastically, the 35k allowance on my free night is not going very far, even if I add the 15k points I’m allowed to. Suggestions for destinations where points go farthest within four hours of Baltimore? I like a nice hotel!
I totally understand your frustration with the point value changes! With the 35k points plus the 15k bonus, you'll still have some flexibility, but choosing a destination within four hours of Baltimore where your points will go far is key. Here are a few suggestions for destinations with nice hotels where your Bonvoy free night award could give you great value:
- Philadelphia, PA: A quick 1.5-2 hour drive from Baltimore, Philadelphia has several great Marriott properties, including the JW Marriott Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown. These hotels are centrally located and offer easy access to attractions like the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. You’ll find that your points can stretch a bit further in Philly compared to larger cities like NYC.
- Richmond, VA: About 2.5-3 hours south of Baltimore, Richmond is a charming, historic city with a number of Marriott properties. The Delta Hotels by Marriott Richmond Downtown offers a great central location and a modern feel. Richmond also has several cultural attractions like the Virginia State Capitol, the American Civil War Museum, and lovely walking trails along the James River.
- Washington, D.C.: While Washington, D.C. is just an hour away, hotel prices tend to be higher, and you might not get as much value with your free night here. However, if you can book at a less central Marriott, you can still find some great deals. The Residence Inn by Marriott Alexandria Old Town South at Carlyle offers easy access to D.C. and could be a solid option.
- Ocean City, MD: If you’re looking for a more relaxed getaway near the beach, Ocean City is about 3 hours from Baltimore. The Marriott’s OceanWatch Villas offer oceanfront views, and while your points may not stretch as far as other cities, it’s a great option for a weekend getaway. You'll get to enjoy the beach, boardwalk, and local seafood.
- Charlottesville, VA: About 3.5 hours from Baltimore, Charlottesville is a beautiful college town with a laid-back vibe. The Graduate Charlottesville is a fun and trendy Marriott property that reflects the town's vibe. You can enjoy the nearby Monticello, Thomas Jefferson’s home, or visit the local wineries. It’s a great option if you want a mix of history and relaxation.
- Hershey, PA: A 2-hour drive from Baltimore, Hershey offers both a sweet getaway and a variety of Marriott options like the Hampton Inn & Suites Hershey or the SpringHill Suites by Marriott Hershey. These hotels are close to Hersheypark and other attractions like Hershey’s Chocolate World. Perfect for a family-friendly or nostalgic escape!
When looking for the best value for your points, be sure to also check for seasonal promotions or discount rates at Bonvoy hotels in these cities. That can make your points go even further, and you may be able to enjoy some extra perks or upgrades.
Each of these destinations offers a good mix of historic charm, nature, and nice hotel options where you’ll get great value with your Bonvoy free night. I hope this gives you a few good ideas for your getaway!
