Beach-Drinking

We will be coming to Miami for a cruise in June. We will be staying near the cruise port. My question is can you drink beer on the beach ?

In Miami Beach, public beaches have strict rules regarding alcohol. Open containers, including beer, wine, and mixed drinks, are not allowed on the sand. This rule is enforced citywide, including popular areas near South Beach, Mid-Beach, and North Beach. Violating this can result in fines or citations by local police.

However, there are ways to enjoy a drink legally while still being close to the beach:

  • Beachfront bars and restaurants: Many hotels and bars along Collins Avenue or Ocean Drive offer outdoor seating with views of the beach where you can enjoy a cold beer or cocktail legally.
  • Private hotel beaches: If your hotel has a private beach area, check their rules—some allow alcoholic beverages within the property boundaries.
  • Boardwalk areas: Some restaurants along the Miami Beach Boardwalk serve drinks, but again, consumption must be within the restaurant’s licensed area and not on the sand itself.

Summary:

  • Public sand: No alcohol allowed.
  • Beach bars and hotel terraces: Alcohol is allowed within licensed premises.
  • Bring your ID: Legal drinking age in Florida is 21, and it’s enforced at bars and hotel venues.

So for your cruise weekend in June, you can definitely enjoy a beer near the beach at a bar or hotel patio, but you cannot take it down to your beach chair on public sand.
