Private boat trips?

We're visiting Bar Harbor in October. Wondering if anyone has taken a private boat trip (nature watching, etc.). All I can find is the Bar Harbor Whale Watch Co which just does large boats. We've done private trips out of Camden on sailboats and were hoping there was something similar in Bar Harbor.

Bar Harbor is a beautiful location for nature watching and private boat trips, and while the Bar Harbor Whale Watch Co. offers large boat tours, there are indeed options for more intimate, private boat experiences as well. Below are some suggestions for private trips in the Bar Harbor area:

  • Acadia Yacht Charters: They offer private sailing and motor yacht charters. You can book a half-day, full-day, or sunset cruise, with options to explore the coastline, islands, and wildlife. Their crew is experienced, and the charters can be tailored to your interests, including nature watching, bird watching, and scenic views of Acadia National Park.
  • Atlantic Clipper: While primarily known for its larger tours, Atlantic Clipper also offers private group charters, including nature and wildlife excursions. They can accommodate smaller groups and offer custom itineraries, making it a good option for those looking for a more personal experience on the water.
  • Isle au Haut Boat Services: This service offers private boat trips to the Isle au Haut, a lesser-visited island that is part of Acadia National Park. This is a fantastic choice for those who enjoy exploring quieter parts of the park, with opportunities for wildlife viewing and scenic island vistas.
  • Windward Sailing: If you're looking for a sailboat experience similar to your Camden trip, Windward Sailing offers private charters. You can enjoy a peaceful sailing experience around Frenchman Bay, with the chance to see seals, birds, and stunning coastal views of Mount Desert Island and Acadia.
  • Bar Harbor Boating Company: This company offers private boat rentals, allowing you to explore the harbor and nearby islands at your own pace. Whether you’re looking for a self-guided experience or would prefer a captain to guide you, this option provides flexibility for nature watching or a relaxed day on the water.

Many of these services can be tailored to your preferences, including focusing on wildlife viewing, photography, or simply enjoying the stunning views. Be sure to book early, especially in October, as some services may have limited availability or seasonal closures.

In general, you’ll find a variety of boat types available, from small sailboats to private yachts, and many companies offer sunset or wildlife-themed cruises. If you're looking for something specific, such as bird watching or seal watching, it’s always a good idea to call ahead and confirm that the trip will focus on those activities.
