Paying toll fees on FL528
Hello
I am flying into Orlando (MCO) in 10 days.
I am heading to Bradenton
Google maps advises that there are tolls on the FL528.
Can I pay in cash (I appreciate that this question has been asked before but the most recent post I can find is 3 years' ago.
As of recent updates, FL-528, also known as the Beachline Expressway, has transitioned to a fully electronic toll system in most sections. This means that traditional cash toll booths have been removed and drivers cannot pay cash directly on the road.
Here are the key details you should know:
- Electronic Tolling Only: All tolls are collected electronically via SunPass, E-Pass, or other compatible transponders. Vehicles without a transponder are billed through a system called Toll-By-Plate, which takes a photo of your license plate and sends a bill to the registered owner.
- Toll-By-Plate Option: If you do not have a transponder, you can pay the tolls online after your trip using the Toll-By-Plate system. This is slightly more expensive than using a SunPass or E-Pass due to administrative fees.
- Rental Cars: Most car rental companies in Orlando offer an option to use their toll program. This can be convenient but may include additional daily fees, so check the terms with your rental company. Alternatively, you can use your own SunPass if the rental car is compatible.
Tips for planning your trip from MCO to Bradenton:
- Consider renting a car with a toll transponder or enrolling in the rental company’s toll program to avoid fines or administrative fees.
- If you choose to use Toll-By-Plate, make sure to pay the invoice online promptly to avoid additional late fees.
- Keep a record of your route and any tolls passed; this can help reconcile charges if needed.
In summary, cash is no longer accepted on FL-528, so you must either use an electronic toll transponder or pay via Toll-By-Plate.
