Cape cod in early aug (4 nites)

Hello I'm thanking of coming to cape cod for my 60th bday in August (traveling alone from Jersey)

Ive never been to cape cod and hoping for some pointers on where to stay / not stay etc.

I havent started researching much yet on my own. I am considering the ferry for a day to Martha's Vineyard.

The type of place I'm looking for is a hotel/motel maybe condo? On the water or at least a nice view of the water. A pool is pretty important, and maybe a beach but thats not as important.

I started a brief search of hotels and alot come up in Provencetown, so I'll need to look at a map and see the distance etc. Id like a shopping or site seeing area, winery, boat tour etc. Pretty much open to being active.

Any suggestions would really be appreciated!

Pat

Happy upcoming 60th birthday, Pat! Cape Cod is a fantastic destination for a relaxing yet active getaway, and you're sure to have an amazing time. With its scenic beauty, charming towns, and outdoor activities, Cape Cod offers a great mix of relaxation and exploration. Here's a guide to help you make the most of your four-night trip in early August:

Where to Stay: Since you're looking for a hotel, motel, or condo with a nice view of the water, a pool, and possibly a beach, here are some great options across different towns on Cape Cod:

  • Provincetown – Provincetown is a popular destination on the Outer Cape, known for its vibrant arts scene, eclectic shops, and great dining options. It has a fantastic atmosphere for solo travelers, and while the beaches are beautiful, you won’t find a ton of traditional resorts here. For your needs, consider these:
    • The Provincetown Inn – Situated right on the water, it offers a pool and stunning views of Cape Cod Bay. It’s a great location for exploring Provincetown’s shops, restaurants, and art galleries, and you can easily join a boat tour or whale watching excursion.
    • Chatham Bars Inn – Located a little farther down the Cape, this is a more luxurious option with beach access, a pool, and beautiful views of the bay. It’s a perfect blend of comfort, scenic beauty, and relaxation.
  • Hyannis – This is the “gateway” to the islands (including Martha's Vineyard) and offers a variety of activities such as boat tours and whale watching. There’s a good mix of shopping and sightseeing here too. Here’s a recommendation:
    • Hyannis Harbor Hotel – Located near the Hyannis harbor, this hotel offers easy access to ferry services for a trip to Martha's Vineyard, as well as a pool and lovely harbor views. It’s a great spot if you want easy access to both land and sea activities.
  • Falmouth – Falmouth is a charming town with plenty to do, including ferry access to Martha's Vineyard. It’s a quieter option than Provincetown but still offers great shopping, dining, and water views. Consider these options:
    • Sea Crest Beach Hotel – Situated on Old Silver Beach, this hotel offers a beach and pool, with beautiful views of Buzzards Bay. It’s a fantastic choice if you’re looking for a beachy getaway with some relaxation and activities.
    • The Inn at Siders Lane – A boutique option that’s slightly more private and offers lovely views and a pool, located near Falmouth Village and not too far from the ferry.

Things to Do: Cape Cod offers a great mix of outdoor activities, shopping, sightseeing, and boat tours:

  • Martha's Vineyard Day Trip – Taking the ferry from Hyannis or Falmouth to Martha's Vineyard is a must-do. It’s a 45-minute boat ride, and you can enjoy the island's beautiful beaches, charming towns, and scenic landscapes. Once on the island, you can rent a bike, visit Edgartown or Oak Bluffs, or explore the famous Gingerbread Cottages.
  • Whale Watching – Provincetown is one of the best places for whale watching in the summer. You can book a boat tour to see humpback, minke, and fin whales along with other marine life. It's an unforgettable experience!
  • Shopping and Sightseeing – In Provincetown, you’ll find unique shops, art galleries, and great restaurants. Other towns like Chatham, Hyannis, and Falmouth also offer wonderful shopping, dining, and historic sights. A visit to the Cape Cod National Seashore for hiking and views is also highly recommended.
  • Winery Tour – Cape Cod has a few wineries, such as the Truro Vineyards and Chatham Vineyards, where you can enjoy tastings and take in the scenic vineyard views. Some offer tours and events during the summer months.
  • Beaches – Even if the beach isn’t your top priority, you can still enjoy the many beaches along Cape Cod. Head to Race Point Beach in Provincetown or Old Silver Beach in Falmouth for lovely coastal views.

Other Tips: Early August is peak season on Cape Cod, so it's a good idea to book your accommodation and ferry tickets in advance. The weather should be warm, but it's always good to bring layers, as Cape Cod can have cooler evenings. Also, be sure to check out local events—Cape Cod often has farmers' markets, live music, and other summer happenings during this time of year.

Wishing you a wonderful 60th birthday getaway! Cape Cod is the perfect mix of relaxation and adventure, and you’ll have plenty to enjoy on your solo trip.
