Fly Fishing Tours

My wife really wants to try fly fishing when we're at Glacier in August. While I've found multiple fly fishing tours, all of them are maximum of 2 people. This is a problem since we're a family of 3!

Anyone know of any fly fishing tours that allow three people? Otherwise I suppose we can just split up into 2 groups

Fly fishing is a fantastic experience in Glacier National Park, and it's great that your family is excited to give it a try! You're right that many tours are typically designed for small groups (2 people) to ensure personalized instruction and space on the river, but there are several ways to accommodate your family of three. Here are some options to consider:

  • Private Fly Fishing Guides: Many fly fishing guides and companies offer private tours, where they can customize the experience to fit your group size. You can request a private trip for three people, and the guide will provide individual attention while ensuring everyone has a chance to learn and fish. Some guides may charge a slightly higher rate for a third person, but it's a great way to enjoy the experience together. Popular guide services in the Glacier area include Glacier Anglers and Flathead Lake Fishing.
  • Half-Day or Full-Day Group Tours: Some outfitters may have small-group tours that can accommodate up to three people. While these tours are usually limited to 2, there might be flexibility depending on availability and demand. It’s worth calling ahead or checking with local companies to see if they can make an exception or add a third rod to the group. Companies like Glacier Raft Company or Montana Whitewater could potentially accommodate your group size.
  • Family-Focused Outfitters: Some companies specialize in family-friendly tours and might be more open to accommodating a family of three. These tours can often be more relaxed and designed with the needs of a family in mind. Look for outfitters that specifically market to families or those who offer flexible booking options.

If you do need to split up into two groups, it’s still possible to have a great time, with one group of two fishing together and the other taking the chance to enjoy the surrounding scenery or participate in a different activity. Many guides will allow a family to book two separate groups, especially if they’re close in time and location.

It's best to book early, especially during the busy summer season, as Glacier's fishing tours can fill up fast. Make sure to communicate your group size and any specific preferences when booking to ensure the best experience!
